Michael “Mike” Scott Hurley, 64, of Portsmouth, was born in Phoenix, AZ on October 23, 1959, to Thelma Marie Williams Hurley and Robert M. Hurley. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two sisters-in-law, Vickie and Marsha, and two nieces.
Michael was larger than life and left this life with dignity and without a whimper on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, a brain cancer, on January 9, 2024.
He is survived by his loving friend, Kathy Murphy, and six brothers, Bob (Brenda) of Wheelersburg, Ron of New Boston, Wil (Carrie) of Stockdale, David of West Portsmouth, Paul (Kelli) of Wheelersburg, and Randy (Sherry) of Wheelersburg. Also surviving Mike are two sisters, Linda (Ted) Herrmann of Portsmouth, and Nancy (Danny) Turner of Dallas, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and their families. He also leaves behind two rescue cats, Bonnie and Clyde.
Mike was a co-owner of Hurley’s Garage in Portsmouth, a builder, and a meat cutter. He wore many hats during his lifetime-remodeling several family members’ and friends’ houses and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Michael loved his family and was fiercely loyal. He protected them throughout his life, beginning in grade school in the “East End” when the school bullies tried to beat up his smaller brothers.
He loved boating on the Ohio River and sitting around a campfire with family and friends, drinking a cold one, and telling stories.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held at noon on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth. The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until the service hour and would love to hear some of those “Mike Stories” they may not have already heard from his friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201-25th St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.
“We will always love you, Spike.”
